Modern art

Tate modern in London

Great title because so many people think this about modern art. We loved the modern art. It made us think so hard that our brains got too tired to continue. So shopping gave us a nice break.

Sunny day. It brightened our mood.

Can't find the Tate Modern.

Chelsea Flower Show

The flowers were huge (most were bigger than my hand) and beautiful. Everyone came with their absolute best. I thought the products of nature were more beautiful than Versailles! I think my aunts would have loved it!

Here's a display from a botanic gardener from Taiwan:

All the flowers are hand cut and arranged. These would have only been in bloom for three days if they'd been in Taiwan!

Absolutely perfect berries! We wanted to eat them.

Fiero- "So I have been thinking....." Elphaba- "so I've heard."

Alison liked it. So did I. It was amazing. It was good. We enjoyed ourselves. That is all. Can't say much more. Or rather, if you would like to hear more, you can talk to us separately because we, especially I, can talk about Wicked for days. So let me know if you would like to set a date to listen to me go on and on and on and on and on...................................

My interpretation after the show of Glinda's hair flip.

Some favorite quotes:

"Where I am from, we believe all sorts of things that aren't true.... We call it history."

"A man is called a traitor or liberator, a rich man's a thief or philanthropist. Is one a crusader or ruthless invader? It's all in which label is able to persist."

"Even if I am flying solo, at least I am flying free. To those who try to ground me, take a message back from me. Tell them I am defying gravity."

"So much of who I am is part of my name."

"The trouble with schools is they always try to teach the wrong lesson. Believe me, I have been kicked out of enough of them to know."

"I've heard it's said that people come into our lives for a reason. Bringing something we must learn if we let them, and we help them in return. Well I don't know if I believe that's true. But I know I'm who I am today because I knew you."

Toy land in Harrods.

High tea in London!

Great photo opportunity.....ies

Be jealous mom and dad:) our garden has a long way to go before this.

This reminded us of home!

Once

Once upon a time, Alison and I were in London and wanted to see a musical. We wanted a show that was innovative and new. We were seeing Wicked the next night, which is a grand, elaborate show. We wanted something personal. We saw a show that was intimate. It was was so funny that it brought me to tears laughing the first act and crying the second. The spirit was Irish, with folk music and a bar being the only set piece. Every actor played at least two musical instruments. Every actor was also a singer, who was a dancer, who played their own orchestral music and moved their own set pieces. The story was uplifting but there was no happy ending. We loved it.

When we talked later about the show, we talked about how it was innovative. It was a piece of theater that attempted to draw in its audiences in a new way. Theaters are struggling to keep their audiences while film and tv dominate entertainment. Once made a theater experience that no movie ever could. The audience became a part of the show by buying beer and wine on the stage before and after and no clear beginning or end to the show. It was wonderful. I can't even describe much more besides the fact that it was a beautiful piece of art.

Modern Day Overindulgence

We felt so claustrophobic and out of place when we walked in. Then we discovered Toy Land and all was well with the world. There are three giant rooms (The Big Top, Enchanted Forest, and Odyssey) dedicated to toys. These rooms are complete with a governors palace doll house for £999, not including inside furnishings, and a hand-made, six-months-to-make, life-size, toy polar bear whose price was not listed. The giant toy lion was £4,000, so our guess is somewhere around that.
